| Services: | The purpose of the Board is to license and regulate contractors for the protection of the public. A “contractor” includes individuals or firms who offer services to improve real property, such as: home building; remodeling; room additions; swimming pools; painting; roofing; landscaping; plumbing; electrical; heating and air conditioning. The Board’s website has a great deal of useful consumer information about contracting in Nevada and tips for hiring a contractor. The Board has the jurisdiction (“power”) to handle homeowner complaints regarding licensed contractors including: failure of a licensed contractor to fulfill the terms of an agreement, poor workmanship; abandonment; and failure to pay subcontractors or materials suppliers. A consumer complaint form and links to information about Nevada contracting law may be found on their web site at http://www.nvcontractorsboard.com Homeowners who would like information about a contractor’s license may contact the nearest Board office. A contractor license search may be done on their web site. On the board' home page, click on "License Search" in the top menu bar. The Board handles the Residential Recovery Fund which compensates single family homeowners for damages caused by a licensed contractor’s failure to properly complete a residential contract. To make a claim on the Recovery Fund, certain requirements must be met. More detailed information about the Residential Recovery Fund and the claim form are available on their web site at http://www.nvcontractorsboard.com/Residential%20Recovery/Res_Recovery_Main.htm The Board also handles reports of illegal (unlicensed) contracting activity and prosecutes related cases in the court system. Contracting without a license can lead to fines, restitution or jail time.
