In cooperation with other legal providers, Nevada Legal Services provides limited services in the following areas: private landlord/tenant, consumer law, and family law.

Immigration: Assistance with domestic violence issues VAWA (Violence Against Women Act) cases.

Public Assistance & Benefits: legal problems related to food stamps, SSI (Supplemental Security Income), county welfare benefits, temporary assistance to needy families (TANF), kinship program (guardianships for minors)

Work Related Issues: unemployment compensation appeals

Public Housing Matters: denial of application, termination problems, rent calculation, housing inspection issues, Justice Court representation for evictions and appeals to District Court for evictions

Private Housing Matters: eligible clients are assisted with issues related to mobile home park tenancies and private landlord-tenant matters

Health Care: Medicaid (state & federal), Medical Assistance, Nevada Check-Up, Medicare

Income Tax Issues: clinics and legal representation for qualified taxpayers

Matters NOT handled by this agency: abortion, annulments, legal separations, class action suits, criminal matters, euthanasia or assisted suicide, incarcerated persons, name changes, personal injury, wills, worker's compensation.

Eligibility:Eligibility depends upon the type of legal assistance you need and your income level. To be eligible for assistance through Nevada Legal Services you must be an individual, household organization, or group with a low income. During your first appointment you will either be advised and/or briefly assisted by one of the advocates or be referred. If formal representation is requested, Nevada Legal Services staff will make that eligibility decision at a later date.
