| Services: | CCLS provides counsel, advice and/or representation in a variety of legal areas, including: consumer fraud violations; public and private housing violations; special education issues; denial of access in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act; and Social Security benefits. CCLS also assists people living with HIV/AIDS and people who have been the victims of domestic violence. The Children's Attorney Project, or CAP, is a program within CCLS which provides counsel, advice and representation to abused and neglected children who are in foster placements or who are wards of the state. The Pro Bono Project, a division of CCLS, places low-income individuals with private attorneys in Clark County who have agreed to accept cases at no charge. Generally, the cases the Pro Bono Project places involve real estate, bankruptcy or family law issues. Through a joint program with Nevada Legal Services, CCLS also provides limited assistance to immigrants. This program, the Immigrant Protection Project, helps illegal immigrants who are victims of domestic violence. In particular, the program assists VAWA clients where immigrant is victim of domestic violence, U visa clients where the client is a victim of certain crimes, and T visa clients where the client is a victim of a severe form of trafficking of persons. Another joint program with Nevada Legal Services and the UNLV Boyd School of Law provides legal information classes free to the community. These classes include bankruptcy, guardianship, small claims, family law and paternity/custody. |
