Finding "the law"
What you need to know about finding "the law."

The law itself comes from the three branches of the government:

  1. legislative (i.e. Nevada Legislature)
  2. executive (i.e. Nevada agencies)
  3. judicial (i.e. Nevada Supreme Court).
So, in order to find "the law" you'll need to check all of these branches' publications to be thorough in your research. Normally, you can't just check one resource to find "the law."

You will likely need to visit a Nevada Law Library to look at the official copies of these materials and to do thorough research of Nevada case law.

For information on federal legal research, please see Legal Research Favorites.

Legal Forms
3 Things You Need to Know About Legal Forms

  1. If you are looking for legal forms, you should be aware that legal forms are not the law.
  2. The forms are based on the law and the law can change.
  3. Attorneys use legal forms as a starting place for their research and make sure that that the legal form is accurate, current and related to the appropriate jurisdiction.
Here are some links that may help you with your research related to legal forms.

Don't Forget to Check with Your Local Court!

Court personnel can't give legal advice or tell you how to handle your case.

So, why check a court's web page or visit a court clerk's office?

  • The court's web page may have forms or instructions that are helpful to you.
  • The court clerk's office may have forms or instructions available to the public.
