About the LEAN Project
Spearheaded by the Washoe County Law Library
The Legal Electronic Assistance for Nevadan's Project has been spearheaded by the Washoe County Law Library. The project was created to provide user-friendly access to Nevada legal information and free and low-cost legal assistance to 1.9 million Nevadans. Nevada Bar Association studies show that especially rural and low- and moderate-income Nevadans are not aware of the free and low-cost legal resources available to them, "Low- and moderate-income Nevadans' awareness of pro bono services is approximately 24 percent and is lowest in the Rural region." (p. 5) Even more troubling, the survey also determined that, "A significant number (6.3%) do not know where they would look for any type of legal help if they should require it in the future."(p. 5) It is our hope that the web-based Nevada Legal Resources Directory will alleviate this problem. In addition, we have endeavored to include not only Nevada agencies that provide legal advice per se, but also agencies that provide help with law-related issues like alternative dispute resolution, child support enforcement, consumer information, debt management, domestic violence, employee activism, and minority affairs.

Funding and Support
IMLS Logo The project has been funded in large part by a federal Library Services and Technology Act Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services and has also received funding and resources from the E.L. Cord Foundation, Washoe County Bar Association and the Washoe County Law Library. A number of Nevada librarians have also volunteered their time to gather information for agency listings.

Informational Handout
